In Which I Pretend to be a genuine fashion Blogger(TM)

So the great people at ASDA sent me an email last month asking if I would like to “style” one of their celebration gowns for a blog writer challenge. I quite much never do this since a lot of of these gowns either don’t are available in larger sizes, or they expense the earth, or both, which indicates whatever they send isn’t appropriate to daily life. Also, agreeing indicates I have to rope the long-suffering Mr. DressADay into taking a photo of me, as well as then I have to publish a photo of myself using something goofy.

But, as it turned out, the gowns are from the new super-cheap George line (£20!) as well as are available in larger sizes. Plus, I’m trying to be less self-conscious about publishing photos of myself. (And it’s great I’m trying to be less self-conscious, because, frankly, in these photos I look like a muppet, in both the us as well as UK senses of the term.)

Here’s the gown ASDA sent:

Yeah. This is not an ideal gown for a forty-year old. When I got the gown I discovered myself playing a version of the game I play in airports while waiting on my inspected luggage, which is “What will I wear if my luggage is lost?” My normal lost-luggage-catastrophe plan (which, thankfully, has never been put into effect) is: run to H&M as well as get a black skirt as well as black tee shirts as well as a couple of bright cardigans/pairs of tights (depending on season), as well as hope for the best. only in this case, the “black skirt/black t-shirt” was “cream-colored cotton lace dress”.

So here’s exactly how I muppetized it:

I was believing type of “late-80s/early 90s revival”, since that’s quite much the last time I used my skirts this short. (And I truly liked that fuchsia-neon eco-friendly combo back in the day, however never had the digestive tracts to truly choose it.) The sweatshirt is from Land’s End, the tights are Hue, as well as the boots are a pair of Donald Pliners I gotten on eBay ages ago, as well as which I wear when I requirement to add a blob of bad-ass to something that would otherwise be as well prissy. The enjoy is a vintage ’80s swatch, too, in translucent pink. The lipstick is NARS funny Face.

This gown is a UK size 12. (It in shape relatively well — there were tie strings in the back to pull in the midsection however they bugged me so I cut them off.)

Here’s a much better view of the boots (I truly like these boots, however they’re “parties only” considering that the heel is so high):

I believe if I were a bit younger, or if I resided in San Francisco appropriate (or resided in Brooklyn as well as worked in fashion publishing) I would really wear this outside of my fenced back yard. The only thing that’s missing is some fashion jewelry … I believed that an armful of lacquered skinny Indian bangles in bright pink as well as acid eco-friendly would be nice, however I (of course) own no such thing, since bracelets are a pain when you type all day.

(Supposedly all the blog writers participating will vote on the “most creative” look as well as the champion will get an ASDA gift card. I have about as much possibility of winning as I do of going to the satisfied sphere this year, however I figure I must disclose that anyway.)

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled random stitching blogging.
